The study ceiling. How about those 2x4 joists on a 2-foot span? This means we can't use a flush beam, so a five-inch beam will come down from the ceiling. Now we know why the upstairs bathroom has that funky step.

Some sort of coal chute or something? Behind this wall is the half bath.

By the end of the day Monday, only the toilet remained.
